  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup dulce de leche
  • 2 oz dark chocolate
  • 2 oz heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In one bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix vegetable oil, buttermilk, hot water, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently.
  4. Pour into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a rack.
  5. For the frosting, melt chocolate with heavy cream over low heat; whisk in dulce de leche.
  6. Once cooled, frost the cake layers and serve.
