  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup shortening (melted)
  • Vegetable or peanut oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 2/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Warm water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, mix warm water, honey, egg, and vanilla; add melted shortening.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients using a stand mixer on low speed until mixed; knead on medium for about 8 minutes.
  4. Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl for 1 to 2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare cinnamon sugar filling by mixing cinnamon and additional sugar in a small bowl.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, then roll tightly and slice into pieces.
  7. Allow pieces to rise again on a lined baking sheet for 45 minutes before baking or frying.
